Trip to Dessau

After a 1h30 bus trip from Berlin to Dessau, we went to find the Airbnb we had booked. That was in a city called Roßlau, 4 min by train from Dessau.

When we arrived, to our surprise, we couldn’t find anything on the 52 except for the train station itself. I thought to myself: something must be wrong. Saulo phoned the responsible person for the ad and said we were in front of the station but couldn’t find the address. She simply got out of that old brick building and waved at us from one of the doors: “I’m here”! Yes, the accommodation was on the second floor of the train station building. The place had a completely quirky/kitsch appearance, it had its charm. When we walked in the reception it was quite a shock before we could grasp the concept: two manikins standing at the end of a red carpet with their arms lifted wearing Hawaiian flower necklaces. I was just a bit scared. It is not to expect such a place in an ordinary space of functionalism like that. We went to the rooms on the upper floor and it was then very charming with plenty of Bauhaus references.

The next day we rented two bikes and went to Dessau. We visited the Meister Houses, except for one occupied by a resident artist. Afterwards in the Bauhaus building itself, we could enjoy especially the little clever details as interesting fixtures and all those everyday trivial things converted to the language of plane, line, and dot. We were impressed by the studio and middle section with glass walls.

After the visit, we cycled for a while by the garden areas ad parks in the region. It was sunny and the colors vibrant, we had such a great time!
